The “Pouilly-Fuissé” PDO is located in the Saône et Loire, at the extreme south of the BurgundyFranche-Comté region. It is one of the five “communal” appellations of the Mâconnais. The “Pouilly-Fuissé” PDO only concerns white wines, produced within a delimited production area of approximately 800 hectares spread over 4 communes. For 10 years, the “Pouilly-Fuissé” PDO’s defence and management organisation (ODG) and the INAO have been working on the recognition of these first growths of the appellation by studying the reputation, uses and natural characteristics of the plots. This work has made it possible to propose 22 “premier cru” climats, representing 194 hectares (24% of the “Pouilly-Fuissé” PDO area), spread over the four communes of the appellation: Chaintré, Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly and Vergisson. Unlike the other municipal AOPs in Burgundy, the municipal appellations of the Mâconnais did not previously benefit from “premier cru” climates. The ODG of the “Pouilly-Fuissé” PDO is the first to recognise the specific characteristics of certain localities, known as “climats” in Burgundy terminology. It applied for recognition as a “premier cru” in 2010. The approval order for our new specifications was published on Friday 21 November 2020 in the Journal Officiel de la République Française. This recognition is a pledge of the future for the development of our region and our Estate. Caroline, William and the team at Domaine Trouillet
